Federal infantry button, eagle with "I", "SCOVILLS & Co (dot under the o). / (dot) EXTRA (dot) " dm between two solid rings, two part convex smallsize, (15mm) Button depicts eagle facing right with "I" in the shield, generall...y for infantry officers. Backmark: "SCOVILLS & Co (dotunder the o). / (dot) EXTRA (dot) " dm between two solid rings, (outer ring may be obscured in the crimping), made in small size only, these were manufactured in the 1850s and 1860s during the era of Scovill Manufacturing, the Scovils & Co name from an earlier period was used as a way to abbreviate the name to fit the space on a small button, Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size. .Reference: Albert GI85 or GI88, Tice GI215A68. Die pattern, shield is narrow, eagle's wings are long and orderly, 5 tail feathers are long and nearly equal in length. Important Info
