1939 Vintage Photo by ACME. An Air Raid shelter that could be erected by a housewife in a drawing room has been perfected by J. Graveley, a former Naval Chief Petty Officer who is now a cafe proprietor in Chandler's Ford, England. The shelter has room for at least 6 persons and can be built at a cost of $5 per person. It is built as a triangle so that only the smallest space forms the shelter's roof. In case of an air raid, the housewife can take the pieces fro...m the garden shed or basement and erect it. If not required, the shelter can be used as a tool shed. Mrs. Graveley, wife of the inventor (second from right) being helped form the shelter by a British Army Soldier.
