The original Pioneer Soda Works, in Tucson, began operation in 1880 on Stone Avenue. Other towns such as Tombstone (1881), Prescott (1882), Benson (1883), Clifton, and Phoenix (1884) would soon have their own sods works but it was the Pioneer which forest brought easily accessible soda water to the territory. John F. Nines, the original proprietor, saw his business flourish as he shipped his soda water up and down the Southern Pacifi...c rail route and later in the year moved his works to a new location at 215 Convent Street. Expanding the business at this time, to also provide ice, the company name was changed to Pioneer Soda & Ice Works. Late 1881 saw John Innes sell his business to George W. Van Hovenburg & Company. In 1883 Van Hovenburg changes the company name to People Ice Company but continued to operate the soda works part of the business under the Pioneer Soda Works name. Three years later, in 1886, the Pioneer Soda Works was no longer in business and soda water manufacturing for the city was being done by an ex-employee of the People Ice Company.
This is a 1880-1881 aqua bottle. The bottle is solid and intact, with scuffs from usage but no cracks.
