Here we have a signature, certified as genuine by PSA/DNA, of the 12th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Harlan F. Stone. Stone, nominated to the Supreme Court in 1925 by President Coolidge, served as an Associate Justice before becoming the Chief Justice in July of 1941. He kept that post until his death (at the age of 73) on April 22nd, 1945.
Despite Stone’s appointment by Calvin Coolidge, he was quite liberal in most of his opinions. In fact, Stone, Jus...tice Brandeis and Justice Cardozo were called “The Three Musketeers” for their liberal leanings. Stone’s support of President Roosevelt’s “New Deal” placed him in the President’s favor, and Roosevelt nominated Stone for the position of Chief Justice.
Who would have thought that a Justice nominated by Coolidge would win the favor of Roosevelt? That is just part of what makes the appointment of Supreme Court Justices so fascinating. This card belongs in your collection!
