Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:139891 | Brand: Seth Thomas |
It has the proper Seth Thomas Label on the inside bottom showing service dates in the 1970"s.There is also the proper "Form 1649 Standard" that the Santa Fe Rail System had inside their clocks to record service and repairs to the clocks used for their railroad at that time.Form looks to be Dated Dec. 3, 1937.Clock located in Strong City Kansas where Santa Fe had a stationThe No. at the top looks to be 4-?54Workman's name i...s faded/smudged .The zinc dial had been repainted with the proper Santa Fe Railway System Montgomery Dial, of the time.Personally, not a fan of the Bold Lettering, but what's there looks to be correct.The upper and lower door glasses look to be original early 1900s.Glass in early 1900s did not have the wave seen in earlier 1800 glass.This glass shows more of a distortion (not flat) like modern glass today.The movement looks to be a #77. It is clean a runs fine.The Pendulum stick looks original but has had the Crutch/Wear Plate replaced.The Pendulum Bob is a proper #2 replacement.The Weight looks proper and surly original.
I know little about the movements on the #2s, so maybe some one can help?The case where the movement mounts has an extra set of (4) in a typical "H" pattern.The upper and lower pair of these holes are 3 3/4" left and right, and 4" spread up and down.I think may have been the mounting holes for the original movement base?If you know something about this, Let me know so it can be passed on..
I believe the clock to be a "True" SANTA FE RAILWAY 1915-1920 but, with the original movement replaced with a proper Seth Thomas #2 movement, 1930-1940 ?Maybe, The movement may have been changed out by Santa Fe Time Service Department.?
Did any of the #77 A or B models have this large of mounting hole spread?, because this one now, is a bit smaller.Update;
In Strong City from1887 to 1938, there was a six stall engine roundhouse employed many workers.On the label where it has "Boiler Room" written in, and Station has a line penciled through it.Does that mean it wasn't in a station but in whatever Support building the "Boiler Room" was??I would guess that most R.R. clocks found now days, were not hanging just in the Depots.Many if not most, in offices and other support locations.Also I was asked about any case markings..I can not find any engraving or stamping of any numbers or letters that are sometimes on R.R clocks.Thoughts???ALSO:The movement picture does not show where someone engraved (5474H), , just below the stamped -9-39 I will add a new movement pic.
The movement does show years of age.The clock is 36” tall X 16” wide X 6” deepA very nice looking and great running R.R. Clock.
