Grapefruit Moon Gallery has acquired a unique and beautiful collection of photographs from the personal collection of West Coast designer and fashion impresario Peggy Hamilton. Hamilton began work as a fashion designer in New York City in the 1910s and followed the film industry's move to the West Coast where she was the costume designer for Triangle Films. For a number of years Hamilton wrote a fashion column for The Los Angeles Times before going on to host a radio program on the same topic. She hosted a number of fashion shows at the Biltmore Hotel featuring designs from Hollywood's costume designers as well as ready to wear items and used her socialite status to show off her own sartorial prowess. Peggy Hamilton sought to make LA and Hollywood a fashion hub on par with New York, London, and Paris and was quoted as saying Los Angeles was the "Paris of America." This is a spectacular assortment of photographs featuring images of Hamilton modeling her own designs or of models/celebrities posed under Hamilton's careful styling and we are absolutely thrilled to be offering them here on eBay in the coming weeks and months!
ITEM: This is a 1924 vintage and original photograph of Peggy Hamilton, the go-to Hollywood fashionista and tastemaker of the 1920s and 1930s. The style icon is stunning in a crocheted dress with matching hat and a fur draped over one arm. Taken during Hamilton's visit to France, the fashion lover appears to be at a garden party or outdoor fashion show.

Peggy Hamilton modeled this ensemble a couple of times in her newspaper column as part of a "Peggy Goes To Paris" pictorial on July 20, 1924 and August 3, 1924.
Below are some examples of Hamilton's fashion column in The Los Angeles Times as well as a small sampling of the photographs featured in this collection.
