ANTIQUE 19thC MINIATURE DRESSER BOX INLAY COMPASS STAR DESIGN W/IVORY LOCK

ANTIQUE MINI DRESSER BOX This dresser box is a wonderful item that includes a letter that was tucked inside when I purchased it. The box is made from various shades and types of wood with a beautiful inlay compass star design on all 4 sides and the top. The top has a 10-sided compass star and each side has 8-sided stars.
There is so much detail to this box! The borders and corners of each side of the box has a stripe inlay pattern and there is a small ivory section for the ...lock & latch. It is in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear and age. The inside has some scratches on lid. It does not have any musty or bad odors.
Included in the box is a hand-written letter addressed to Marion Stevens, West Springfield, Mass. The letter references a tin box and then this particular box. It says:
"The tin box belonged to Unice (sic) Canedy of Heartwellville Vt. She was my great grandmother. It always sat on a highboy upstairs in her home.
This wooden box belonged to the same person. It was made by her step son when he served time in Bennington prison for the murder of a married neighbor, when he became jealous of the neighbor and his sweetheart. The sweetheart waited and married him the day he was free. They left town and were never heard from again. The wood for the boxes he made was brought to him by friends. The prison in those days didn't give prisoners anything.
Unice (sic) had two girls one Climena born 1849 and my Aunt Sophronie called Min & Fern - what names."
I found a record with a picture of a gravestone for Eunice Canedy here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=canedy&GSmid=47664240&GRid=105142281&. She lived from 1824-1906 and had a number of children, including two daughters named Sophronia Canedy Howe (1845 - 1912) and Climena Canedy Johnson (1848 - 1932).
