Wild Heerbrugg TM 2 Swiss Rangefinder WWII 1941 Mfg. Complete
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:14136211 | Country/Region of Manufacture: Switzerland |
An optical rangefinder made in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, by Wild. These high-quality instruments were made for military use and are both durable and heavy. The complete set-up shown here weighs about 36 lbs.
The unit ranges from 300 meters to about 30 km, or nearly 19 miles. At the closer ranges the accuracy is very good and the scale increments are pretty far apart, letting you estimate down to the yard (meter).&...nbsp; At great distances, the scale divisions are pretty close. You can read reports on-line from users of these Wild units where they have found them to compare very favorably with modern electronic distance measuring equipment.
This unit was manufactured in 1941. It includes both the metal and wood tripods in excellent condition. Both the yellow tinted lens and the dark solar lens are present, with which you can calibrate the device using the sun as a target. There's the chamois lens cloth and flat metal screwdriver.
Also here is the "lathe" or calibration target, in excellent condition, along with its carrying case. I have another of these, if you had use for two.
Included is a photocopy of the U.S. instructions which tell you in detail how to use, adjust, and calibrate the device.
The tripods and rangefinder fit into the metal tube with backpack-style straps, as shown. There's a number of leather straps, all pliable and in good condition. Apparently they're designed in typical Swiss fashion, as I wasn't smart enough to figure out how this is carried on your back. But the straps suggest that was the intent.
Due to the range capability, it would be a handy thing if you had a large property with a nice view and wanted to establish distances to landmarks.
I will package this to resist UPS abuse. I get favorable UPS rates and will tell you the true shipping cost given your ZIP code. No bogus "handling" or other fees. I only charge the actual shipping cost, no matter what eBay suggests the shipping cost might be.
I have many more photos. E-mail if you have any questions. Note that I don't receive e-mail on my phone and don't get to check e-mail every day, so don't despair if I don't answer right away.
Thanks, Mike
