If some of you follow our Listings, especially the cast iron items we have presented over the years, then you know probably have seen where we have mentioned to gather Gate Mark pieces of cast iron for your collection or to display in your home or business or wherever. Anyway, here is an opportunity to add a couple of very old Gate Mark cast iron to your collection, in one fell swoop. These are Shallow Skillets or Griddles and they are in sequence from a #7 and a #8. This is the way ca...st iron cookware and other pieces like buckets, dutch ovens and so on were manufactured back before the Turn Of The Century or prior to the 1900's. We have seen some claims to dating such pieces as these back to mid 1800's or to the Civil War Era. Now, that very well may be, but we just cannot say the exact date, but we know these are both cast iron pieces from the 1800's. Honestly by looking at each of these you can see the old age styling and design come through. They Measures: *#7=13&1/4" Long (with Handle) by 8&1/2" Across by 5/8" Thick.*#8=14&1/4" Long (with Handle) by 9&1/2" Across by 5/8" Thick.As you can see from the photographs, they both have Heat Rings and the decorative handles on each is the same, except for the Size Numbers on each of them. We found these together and are leaving them together as a pair, because it just seems right to do. They have been cleaned and lightly re-seasoned and are ready to display and yes they could be used in the kitchen if you wish.
