Estate Auction find:I know very little about this item – most of what I have learned is fromresearch of similar items on eBay. I will describe this as best I can butsuggest that you examine photos and judge for yourself exactly what this is.Up for sale is an oldbayonet, and an old leather scabbard with brass fittings. Although I purchasedthem together, I don’t think the scabbard is for this bayonet. The scabbard ismuch longer and the bayonet does not fully fit into the scabbard. &n...bsp;I believe that this is a Musket Bayonet / alsocalled a Socket Bayonet. Both have Markings stamped into the metal!The overall length ofthe bayonet is about 20 ½”. The triangular shaped blade is just over 11” longand 7/8” wide at the base and is straight with no bends. The socket is about 3”long. The bayonet blade and socket have some rust. The base of the blade isstamped “27” over a figure that looks like 3 leaves or petals, over an “x” over“6” (please examine photo). The Leather and Brassscabbard is 22” long. The leather is separated at the sewn seam. The brass tiphas dents. The top brass end, just above the belt hook, is stamped withacceptance symbol over “WD” over image of a crown over “E 7”.You are bidding onboth the bayonet and scabbard.If you need otherdetails, please ask. Conditionis Preowned / Used. There is rust on thebayonet. The Leather scabbard is split at the sewn seam. The brass on thescabbard is dented.
