A CDV-size tintype of a young artilleryman posed next to a woman who perhaps is his mother or sister. The artilleryman holds a light artillery saber in front of him. An 1870s belt plate is at his waist. The woman wears a dark colored dress with embellished bodice and hat. While she steadies herself on the wooden prop, the artilleryman is quite blurry—perhaps because the photographer’s head brace is in the left-background of the frame instead of behind the artilleryman. The image ha...s some waviness but is otherwise in very good condition. It is housed in a full thermoplastic case (no. 3-54 in Paul Berg’s book). It is in good condition with some roughness to the edges and corners.
