Nice, Patented Antique Victorian Apple Peeler, PATENTED 1898, Goodell Co., Antrim, N.H.DESCRIPTION: Scan shows it all.....very early, antique 119 YEAR OLD Victorian "automatic" APPLE PEELER/Parer !!! Nice early iron machine generally, with an interesting design. Cast in it, as shown, is "Pat. May 24, 1898, Turntable 98, Made by Goodell Co., Antrim, N.H.".It works by turning a crank, through 5 geared wheels and a crank. There is a metal 3-pronged "spear" where the apple is skewered to h...old it in position; the apple turns as the crank revolves. There is a replaceable blade on a springed arm that also turns following the contour of the apple, cutting off the peel. These peelers actually were designed quite efficiently, especially for such an early machine. This one is in excellent condition and complete, and it works and CAN STILL BE USED TODAY !!! It even has the spring that helps control the cutting blade. Also has the original thumbed screw on the bottom bar that tightens it to a table or bench and stabilizes it.Main wheel is 4" diameter. Measures 11" x 8" x 4". Crank is 2 " long. This can mount vertically or horizontally. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AND VERY SCARCE WITH VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE ORIGINAL EARLY GREEN VICTORIAN PAINT REMAINING !! First one I have seen with original paint on it. NICE AGED PATINA. You don't see this type of early machine very often in such complete condition, ESPECIALLY A MARKED AND SUCH A NICE DATED ONE. THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST ANTIQUE APPLE PEELERS THAT YOU WILL FIND.Nice early item from an old Massachusetts estate.
