From a little research I believe he is James Shannon Margerum who was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania on 6/22/1838. His Civil War record shows that he enlisted in August 1862 in the Independent Patton Cavalry of the Ringgol...d Battalion, which afterward became Company F of the 22nd Cavalry. He was appointed Brevet Lieutenant, a position he held until the rank was abolished. He served as company artificer and participated in most of 46 battles and minor engagements of his regiment, was twice wounded, though not seriously, and twice fell into the hands of the enemy but succeeded in escaping on both occasions.
The card measures approximately 4-1/4” x 6-3/8”. The photographer is listed as Porter in Washington, Pennsylvania . This is one of several images I am listing today. I will happily combine shipping for winning bidders.
