Antique 1920's Japanese Octagon Drop School Regulator Wall Clock Time Strike RARE. As I understand this was copied from the American clock and was really well made and heavy duty as was the American clock. I have heard both of these clocks referred to as tractors and crude but considering the market and the conditions they would be in the idea of heavy plates and strong mainsprings was great marketing. I understand that perhaps American clock companies had deals with many countri...es including Japan. This clock strikes the hour on a large cathedral spiral gong. I am only guessing at the 1920s as it could be much older. The clock measures 21" x 12" x 5"(including the brass bezel). The movement is brass eight day and strikes on the hour. The previous owner or repair person really got carried away with a dremel tool on the movement and the back of the case. I had this clock in my classroom for many many years and as the clock got older the younger generations could not understand why it had to be wound every week and why not just put new batteries in it. This clock led to many openings about sequence of events, balance, and mathematics as well as geography. I am not sure what kind of wood. While there is a bit of gap on the upper right corner it has been that way for many many years. The case is tight without any wobble or looseness. The bottom glass that says REGULATOR and is original. The brass pendulum is a leafed bullseye style. I am including a wide winged key for easy winding. The dial does show some wear and the brass bezel is tarnished. It has run for at least two months and keeps time. I feel this is a nice size clock as it is not overpowering on a wall.
