A beautiful set of 10 antique Meissen cabinet display plates, decorated with raised gilt. Heavy gilded, hand painted leafs on the white porcelain, leaf shaped mold. These plate was produced around 1850s. These are eye catching beautiful pieces in very good to good antique condition. No cracks, chips, or other damage. The gilding is rich and beautiful however some plates show some degree of gilt wear, depending on a plate. Refer to the pictures for more details. These plates are marked on the underside with the blue Meissen crossed swords mark and other embeded symblolsPlease see the photos for aditional details. The plates are 7.75" wide. This set of plates came from an estate in Rockville, Maryland and belonged to a very talented woman, pianist who used to be a piano teacher at her Suburban Music School, Georgetown University, Montgomery College, andthe US Department of State, where she founded the State of the Arts CulturalSeries. Her house was filled with absolutely unique and unusual pieces.Maissen porcelain was the first "true" European porcelain, produced at the Meissen Factory near Dresden, by efforts of two men, Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and Johann Friedrich Böttger. For decades Europe struggled with attempts to produce true white hard porcelain until the early 1700s, when Böttger and von Tschirnhaus, with support of the Elector of Saxony, were able to produce the formula for the porcelain paste that was a match to chinese porcelain
