This is a very fine antique soda fountain syrup dispenser manufactured by Cordley & Hayes, New York. It is made of glazed stoneware, in the shape of an upright barrel on a tree stump / trunk. The barrel is golden beige, with dark brown hoops and "Root Beer" lettering on both the front and the back. The stump is also brown. Condition is very good, considering this dispenser is over one hundred years old; there are no cracks or chips to the base, and just a couple of very minor flea ...bites around the rim that may actually be manufacturing flaws. The lid, however, has been broken sometime in the past and glued back together, and also has a hairline crack, shown in the attached photos. The spigot is brown Bakelite, with the words "Pat'd Sept. 4, 1917, C.&H.N.Y." around the edge where it screws in to the ceramic base. The spigot works as intended, but its rubber seal is dry and cracked. This fine soda fountain syrup dispenser is approximately 13" tall, and weighs a hefty 7 lbs. 2 oz. Please see photos for details and condition.
