Rhodesian Fireforce Vest (Rhodesian Bush War Item)
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:14324903 |
For sale is my original Rhodesian Fireforce vest. I do believe this particular one is manufactured by North. The tag is no longer on the vest (it would have been located on the upper middle back portion inside the vest), having worn off long ago with wear and use.
The exterior material is a green color heavy cotton canvas, as best I can tell. It is quite thick and robust material. The inner lining ha...s a sort of greenish blue coloring. You will see in the photos that there is some field repair stitching near the center back. The inner vest sports two large hidden pockets. The vest has padding in the front and rear shoulders, and upper back portion. The lower waist portion of the vest has elastic material that still retains its firm elasticity. It is very well made, cushioned and stitched.
All zippers and clasps are in good working order. The front of the vest has both a thick zipper and unusual latches. All are in good working order. On either hip are canteen pouches. The back has upper large dual pouches, a large lower pouch and in the middle some straps for a bed roll. This is a very well laid out vest, especially for its time. There was a lot of consideration put in place for load bearing comfort and maneuverability. Each magazine pouch has an inner strap to allow for quick magazine extraction. The exterior of each mag pouch has dual clasps for both the magazine strap and the pouch closure.
I bought this fairly recently for my collection - from the listing I purchased from, this was in a lot with items brought back by a former Rhodesian SAS man. A very neat piece of history that is still in good working order. Item displays staining and wear that indicates that this was used very actively in the bush, however is still fully functional from zippers to clasps.
