This strikingly handsome, antique English Arts and Crafts style banjo barometer is in Fine condition. Its deeply-carved, solid oak case has no chips or flaws, and shines with a rich, unmarred finish. The glass bezel over the barometer's elaborately painted face has a 1/8-inch decorative bevel, and is trimmed with brass. The barometer face's wooden mount is cracked at 12 and 6 o'clock (see photos), but these do not detract from the piece, and the mount remains solid.&n...bsp; The Fahrenheit/Centigrade thermometer in matching wood case attached to the barometer's neck may have been added later. The barometer does work, though the needle moves minimally. A barometer restorer told me that this was normal, but I can't guarantee this. I purchased this piece from an antiques dealer in New Hampshire about 15 years ago. The barometer measures 33 inches in length, 9.5 inches at its widest point, and 2.75 inches in depth. The diameter of the face is 7.75 inches; the piece weighs 6 lb. 10.5 oz. Shipped by USPS Priority Mail.
