The oil is inscribed stamhuset Ronninge Sogaard and has some old inventory numbers on its backside. ( Number 844) Ronninge Sogaard is a Danish manor and estate located on the island of Funen in Denmark. The oil dates back to the mid 17th century.Fine depiction of the Adoration of the Magi ...or Adoration of the Kings. Three wise men, or magi, from the East are described in the Gospels as having seen a new star and journeyed to pay tribute to the child marked as divine by the heavens. The wise men were often depicted as kings, and, by the Renaissance, the youngest was frequently depicted as an African. This painting executed in the seventeenth century is a good example, It represents the adoration of the three wise men who bring the three gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh) to the child Jesus. Gaspard, offers incense, Melchior, represented as a white bearded old man, gold, and Balthazar, with black skin, myrrh. The kings and shepherds have gathered around the Holy Family at a temple ruin. This painting is in a beautiful original state. The colors remained very fresh.A very fine and interesting painting and worth of further research. The oil has been mounted on a later canvas in the 1800 and framed in a wide golden gallery frame from the 19th century. A document of the history of the Ronninge sogaard and list of its owners will be included with this picture.Condition:Ready to hang. In good condition. The oil has recently been professionally cleaned. There are some few scratches on its surface, due to the old age. Otherwise fine. The frame has minor scratches due to the age.
