Welcome. For your consideration is a beautiful vintage impressionist oil-pastel landscape painting by listed artist J.W. Clarke (19th-20thc). This original pastel painting was completed on a thick panel and signed by the artist on the lower right, however, the signature is illegible. I do guarantee this pastel to be from the hand of J.W. Clarke, as I acquired this painting along with a few other similar pastel paintings by J.W. Clarke recently f...rom an estate. On all of the other paintings the signature was clear, in fact, feel free to check out my other J.W. Clarke pastel paintings on my eBay site, auntiegmg, for confirmation. This vibrant landscape is a fine example of this artist's work. It has a wonderful diffused luminosity, as the warm sun provides the whole landscape with a warm glow.
As for the artist, J.W. Clarke was on record as being a British/American artist born in the 19th century and actively painting into the early 20th century. He is known for his oils, pastels and watercolor landscape paintings.
This painting is in very good vintage condition. The colors remain strong and under a black light it shows no signs of paint loss, in-painting or repair. Unframed this pastel painting measures 10" in width x 20" in height and together with the vintage original wooden frame it measures 11 1/2" x 21 1/2". The handsome vintage is in overall very good vintage condition with some minor surface abrasions consistent with its age. Both the painting and frame are being sold in "as-is" condition.
