This is a Stanley No. 62 low angle plane in excellent original condition.
This plane has been stored in a tool chest for decades and is part of my personal collection. Image #1 and #2 show me taking some very fine shavings from some stubborn cherry with ease. All of the parts on the plane are correct for this type including the unique knob and tote. The original iron adjusts easily and it works perfectly. The knob sits atop a threaded flat washe...r which allows the user to adjust the mouth of the plane by moving the throat plate with the eccentric adjuster. The tote has a shortened base to accommodate the depth adjustment knob. I have treasured this plane and it's been very well taken care of. In preparation for sale, I tuned this plane to exacting standards and the performance is exceptional. I don't care for overcleaned or polished vintage tools, it just seems wrong to me. I use gentle hand techniques and no harsh abrasives or chemicals to rejuvenate a plane. With this example, very little work was required to get it into top shape. I believe in taking a plane to the point where a craftsman would be proud to have it at the bench.Each part of the plane has been cleaned and inspected for damage or wear and I'm happy to report this plane and all of it's parts are in excellent condition! The appropriate parts were lubed where needed and I've honed the original iron to a keen edge for fine work. Stanley advertised this plane to be used for heavy end grain use, I've not used it for that. Today, woodworkers use this plane as a smoother due to the excellent performance and ease of use.During my limited research, I noticed these planes can sustain damage at the mouth because of the thin casting and heavy force they can generate. This plane is damage free! No chips, cracks or repairs and the mouth and cheek area is solid. The throat plate adjusts easily and can be adjusted quite fine for finish work or open for rougher tasks.The japanning is about 95% intact with some small areas missing at the toe and heel of the plane. The knob and tote are held fast with long bolts (not rods and brass nuts) as was common during the early 1940's. All parts are correct for this plane and it's in exceptional condition.This plane will look great in any collection of fine vintage tools or you could put it to use. I'm offering it up for sale as it's been sitting in a tool chest and I feel it's time for someone else to enjoy it.I take pride in what I offer and try to make it easy for you to acquire nice tools for your shop or home.
