1945 J EDGAR HOOVER Signed -- two letters and signatures on FBI letterhead. Signatures have NOT been authenticated. Condition is Used. Some wrinkles, creases and other small flaws. The first and longer letter relates to my mother's resignation from her position as a clerk in the Chicago office of the FBI in May 1945. The letter. signed "J.E. Hoover, " says her resignation has been accepted and talks about her receiving a final check. The second letter, apparentl...y, is a form letter with some blanks filled in, accompanied her final check. Signed "J.E. Hoover, " but the lines of the signature are very thick. This letter has some notes on it made in pencil by my mom. She worked in the FBI's Chicago office in 1944 and 1945, and resigned her position to marry my father, who returned from serving in the army in the Pacific in May 1945. I also have a very short letter signed "S.J. Drayton" dated May 29, 1945 saying there is a check enclosed, the Department of Justice form confirming her resignation, her handwritten draft resignation letter (she typed the copy submitted) and two years of Federal Tax Withholding receipts from 1944 and 1945, stamped "Department of Justice, Washington DC."
