Historical-critical information: Painter and engraver, Bartolomeo Pinelli (1781-1835) trained at the Academy of ...Fine Arts in Bologna, then moved to Rome from the late 18th century. In his prints, alongside themes from literature and classical history, he often illustrates contemporary Rome, with its monuments, but above all with its popular customs. In the latter group is lithography with the quarrel between street women. Easily inclined to raise her hands exactly like men, the Roman commoner was known for her impulsiveness and quarrel- ship. Not infrequently women fight in the street, driven by trivial reasons, as in this case, where they tear each other's hair while a gentleman tries to separate them, under the curious and amused looks of an innkeeper and a group of boys .
