Victoria BC - 1908 Federal Election - Liberal Campaign Postcard - An original patriotic postcard from the Canadian 1908 federal election. The card was distributed by the Young Liberal Club of Victoria BC, and depicts Sir Wilfred Laurier aboard ship in a uniform, with the title below "The Old Pilot" and the life preserver reading "Canada / The New Nation".
The card was overprinted with "For Templeman, Laurier and / A Greater Canada". William Templeman, a favourite of Laur...ier, was a Canadian senator in the 1890s-early 1900s, who resigned his senate seat to run in a 1906 Victoria BC by-election, which he won. He campaigned for reelection in 1908, was defeated, but won a by-election in the Yukon. He campaigned back in Victoria in the 1911 federal election but was again defeated. He passed away in 1914.
