Vintage Metal Tin SIMPLEX PORTABLE TYPEWRITER ~ Child's ToyVery nice condition. Typical signs of prior play, use & age. Some surface scratches (see photo 9), natural aged patina. The little bar near the top that would hold paper does move up and down correctly (see photo 10 vs 1 & 2). You can also push it from side to side (see photos 6 vs 7). The alphabet disc on the front does turn/spin correctly. A few light surface marks, scratches on the silver & white color keyboard s...ticker. As for the dial in the middle/front I am not sure if it is suppose to be like this or not but it does rest against the metal piece on the top where the numbers are. (see photo 11 vs 12). Photo 11 I can pull it forward but when I let it go it automatically rests back against that other piece as seen in photo 12. Typewriter is metal/tin fastened to a hard cardboard bottom with 6 staples.Measures approximately 7" x 5" x 3 3/4". Weighs 1 pound 3 ounces (prior to packaging)On the letter dial it lists several patent numbers for USA, British, French, German & Others. The United States patents numbers range from 1138427 to 1957373.We buy most of our pieces at auctions, flea markets & yard sales so we may not know the history of the item.
