Kiyoshi Saito Signed Japanese Woodblock Print, Man Plowing Rice Field
Item History & Price
Arguably one of the greatest Japanese woodblock print artists of the 20th century, Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997) had a particular interest in creating images of the Japanese countryside, as in this lovely example depicting a man with his ox plowing a rice field in the spring. Dating from between 1960 and 1970, the print is signed in ink by Saito and stamped with his red artist's seal at the lower left. Measuring 10 1/4 inches by 15 1/8 inches (image size), the woodblock is printed on a... full sheet measuring a total of 11 1/2 inches by 17 1/4 inches.
This woodblock is in exceptionally nice condition, with no rips, tears, or foxing. There are a few minor handling marks to the edges of the sheet and a very minor stain to the margin on the reverse of the sheet, but these in no way affect the image.
We are offering this beautiful original, pencil signed woodblock print by one of the greatest Japanese masters of that medium with a very low opening bid, in the expectation that it will achieve its appropriate value.
