Offered is a Syd Mead Portfolio of 6 large prints suitable for framing done for US Steel in 1969. The prints are printed on heavy paper and measure 11 ¼” x 24” for the drawing portion. A 4”extension flap contains a description of each drawing. This is Mead in 1969, envisioning the world of 1990, 20 years in the future. The information flap could be removed or folded behind for framing.

The prints are in exceptional condition with brilliant color. The original Blue Portfolio cover and shipping box are included. The blue portfolio cover has a crease on two edges. (see photo) The drawings are bleed printed meaning there is no white border.
The information flap with each drawing shows Mead's wildly imaginative yet often accurate thinking of the world possibilities 20 years in the future.
This is part of Mead’s contract art and design work done after leaving the Ford Motor Car Design studios. These prints show the exceptional creativity and artistic skill that led to a famous career as a visual futurist, architectural designer, video game artist and motion picture visual futurist for movies such as Tron, Blade Runner, Star Trek, Aliens and others. Mead says his work is aimed at rendering “reality ahead of schedule”.
Syd Mead is one of the most accomplished and widely respected artists and industrial designers alive today. His career boasts an incredible array of projects from designing cars to drafting architectural renderings, but he is most famous for his work as a concept artist on some of the most visually arresting films in the history of cinema. Since working on Star Trek:The Motion Picture in 1978 as a production illustrator creating evocative designs that marry believable content with a neo futuristic form.
It is this ability to predict technological potential that has helped Mead create such a distinctive and influential aesthetic. From his work with Ridley Scott on Blade Runner, to his striking designs for the light cycles in Tron, to his imposing concept art for the U.S.S. Sulaco in James Cameron’s Aliens, Syd Mead has played a pivotal role in shaping cinema’s vision of the future.
