I acquired this pre-columbian style Colima figure of a dog with a baby suckling at a teat, made in Western Mexico (?), from a local estate (the ex-owner was a collector of pottery for a long time) and I learned that the Colima culture flourished there between approximately 2000 B.C and 1000 A.D., but I do not know the age or purpose of this dog. Whatever its function or age, it is a wonderful figure of a female dog, perhaps undoubtedly a fertility figure or fetish of some kind....r>There appears to be a great patina although, as said, I am not an expert and do not know the age of this piece. The condition seems to be very good (please examine all photos) in spite of the fact that it appears to have been repaired from fragments, and well-repaired (you have to look very closely to see the shadows of the repairs/joins).
I am not an expert and rely on your expertise. So I am starting this no reserve auction at a really low number for what it is, a great display item with a ton of character.
