This "no reserve auction" offers an antique, art pottery inkwell that is in wonderful condition. The shape and incised bat design is reminiscent of the arts & crafts period or mission style. It has age crazing in the glaze but no chips, cracks, stains, or other apologies. It retains its original porcelain insert. You won't be disappointed. We think it would look splendid sitting on a Stickley desk! This piece is signed under the lid but hard... to decipher (see pictures). I was told it is a Joseph Ekberg inkwell, circa 1910, Sweden. The style fits the timeframe and the signature is similar to other Gustavsberg factory signatures. Josef Ekberg was the artistic leader for the Gustavsberg factory in 1908-1917 and the developer of the sgrafitto and luster glazes. The glaze on this piece is very glossy and reminds me of majolica.
