This circa 1950 issue Kay wind up tin lithograph toy train is in like new unused original condition in an excellent original box. While emphasizing on both the train and the box that it is Made in England it copies the Ranger Steel Products freight set of the same locomotive and cars that was often boxed with a freight station. Most of the differences I can spot are in the lithography although there is a slight difference in the front smoke stack opening trim. Perhaps Kay lic...ensed the design from Ranger or had them build the parts which they imprinted, assemble, packaged and marketed. This Kay mechanism looks like the Ranger mechanism without the front axle and wheels. Instead of the Ranger front axle which had one of its wheels at an angle the Kay design placed a similar arrangement in the pilot area of the tin shell. "Made in England" indicates Kay at least did their lithography (and box printing) in England after maybe importing the wind up mechanism and maybe the raw tin other components from Ranger in Brooklyn although maybe they licensed their design and had the facilities to do the production in an old Spitfire factory.
