From the estate of the cultural editor / editor-in-chief of one of Sweden's larger daily newspapers I have acquired a collection of records where most records seem to have been played just once, or even never. Many of the records, dating back to the 1950s, are sample records from record companies and artists, other might have been purchased privately. If I have had any doubts about the visual grading, or if a bidder asks for it, I will also play grade the record. I assume all records need cleaning and leave that to the buyer.
M: Mint. I only use this grade when a record is sealed.
NM: Near Mint. I won't grade any unsealed vinyl higher than this. The vinyl looks unplayed, but there might be surface marks from the inner sleeve, and there might be a few light spindle marks present on the labels.
NM-: Not quite Near Mint, has cosmetic flaws but should play NM.For the following grades at least a part of each record (if not both sides in their entirety) has been play graded:
VG++: Excellent. Looks unflawed but not new; sound is fine.
VG+: Has cosmetic flaws, mild surface noise or short patches of ticking, but sound fine overall.
VG: Has moderate noise throughout or one or two bad patches from scratches.Where a record is scratched or noisy I often enclose a sound clip.FinallyIn case you don't agree with my grading or have any other issue with my listing, please contact me and we shall work it out. I will give full refunds (item price + shipping costs), however the shipping costs for sending the item back is for the buyer unless I have made a significant mistake.And remember: Vintage vinyl record pressing standards vary greatly, as do replay systems and individuals' tolerance for even minor surface noise.
