This is a rare original graphic design done in pen and gauche by Franklin Booth for the famous Follies photographer Alfred Cheney Johnston. Johnston had one studio named Don Diego Photograph...y in the 1920's and he hired this famous artist, Franklin Booth, to draw up a logo for him. The design is in the Art Deco style of the day, done in a very lively manner with the typical precision of Booth's hand. On the back of the artwork, Alfred Cheney Johnston has scrawled his signature with a note to return the artwork to him at his address on 7th St. in New York. In searching the internet for another signature of Johnston, I found a contract signed by Johnston from 1921 which bears a very similar signature. Please see the picture of that contract. This is a very fine piece, linking two luminaries of the day in the world of art, dance and photography.
