Stuff like low cost Chinese small diaphragm pencil mics really come to life going through these,
revealing excellent detail and depth.
Dynamic mics like SM58 etc., also shine through these. These are true vintage classic designed and built preamps.
Makes an awesome three channel vintage front end upgrade for any digital recording setup.
Also perfect for adding three vintage tube mic preamps onto the channel inputs of any console.
These can transform generic recording setups into a something more flavourful and inspiring sounding.
All in a compact excellent functioning plug and play package.
All the original caps and resistors still measure well within their original factory values and the cards have excellent signal to noise. The tubes consist of five NOS RCA 5879 tubes, the sixth tube is a GE version of the 5879, all installed just prior to listing this item and the RCA’s have but a few hours usage. The frequency response and gain characteristics is the same on all cards; these are all running at the intended manufacturer specs and they sound excellent.
If you look at the pics with the 5215 preamp cards, the empty hole on each end section of the preamp modules is where the B+ filtering aluminum cannister cap was housed. Each were removed because of height restrictions in the rack mount chassis as well as clearance for the meter output select switch. Ultimately, it’s safer and more reliable to handle the B+ filtering and supply duties with modern Japanese or similar high quality grade caps vs. 65 year old electrolytics, so these still would’ve been disconnected even if they’d been left mounted on the cards.
This also features a switchable AC power input for either 115v North America or 230v Europe.

The unit is being sold in the excellent working condition as described, but being a vintage tube device, it is being sold as is with no expressed warranty or return guarantee, but if there are any issues, I’d work to resolve them, though I’m confident that the unit, packed ruggedly, will arrive in the same excellent plug and play condition as described in this ebay listing and you will be happy with your investment, the accuracy of my description and the sound quality, so bid with confidence.
