This is a fabulous antique German possibly papier mache-faced seated Santa riding in a handmade red tin sleigh pulled by a composition reindeer.
Santa is a handsome fellow, with a clay or composition face, and soft white leather beard and mustache, impressed to look like hair.
He is armless, and wears his original red felt coat and blue pants, both dotted with snow. His legs are wired, and he is firmly attached to his wooden seat in the sleigh.
In his sleigh, Santa brings wrapped presents, a paper "feather tree" branch, fruit and a mica covered bell. This is all tucked in a fine wire mesh bag that once held candies.
The sleigh is handmade from tin, and is decorated with 'snow' and is outlined in wired garland.
The whole effect is charming and would make a stunning addition to your Christmas display!
The ensemble is 11" long, 2 1/4" wide and 3 3/4" tall to top of Santa's head.
It dates to c.1920, was made in Germany and came to me from a Pennsylvania estate.
