Esterbrook had many popular pens and chief am...ong them was the 128 Extra Fine Elastic Pen.So named because it was capable of ornamental and shaded writing.Its elasticity could easily be compared to its direct competitor the Spencerian # 1.This pen is highly sought after by calligraphers and artists for its wonderful capabilities.
This version of the pen is the more modern of the bunch featuring the stamped grooves across the point, rather than the scrapes and etchings of the hand-ground older pens.The engineers felt that stamping grooves generated equal levels of elasticity, while at the same time-saving time and costs.Why don’t you be the judge?Determine for yourself the quandary that is: “Groove vs Grind.”
The manufacture date of this pen is 1946, just before the great merger into “The Esterbrook Pen Company.”The steel would have been made in the United States, but would also be a superior grade than the Penesco series of pens, and that of Hunt, Eagle Pencil Company, or any of the other US competitors.
