Offered this week is a truly hard to find Japanesetin car by Alps and Iwaya (IY). Youdon’t often see rare cars rated a 10 on eBay, but this is a 10. This seldomseen 1956 Mercury 2 door hardtop measures approximately 9.5" long (24.1 cm)by 3” tall (7.6 cm) and 4" wide (10.2 cm). This rare car is totally original and features lightedheadlamps as the car goes forward and lighted taillights as the car goes inreverse. The battery operated functions work exactly as they should.... This isa very colorful 2-tone car typical of the 1950's with a bright yellow-lithographedmiddle sandwiched between the dark green top and bottom. The lithographedinterior just adds to the rich colors. All of the highly detailed tin trim is veryclean and retains its original shine. Tin hubcaps and rubber tires are originaland very good. The battery box isoriginal to the car and is extremely clean and very nice. RonSmith and William C. Gallagher’s “The Big Book of Tin Toy Cars” rates this car a 10 in termsof rarity with a very high value.
