Shapiro, a Washington, D.C. resident and government official whose Chicago Cubs memorabilia collection was widely considered one of the finest in the country (Wolfe, 25*). Shapiro was former chair of the Emil Verban Memorial Society, the invite-only Chicago Cubs fan club of Washington, D.C. that has counted presidents ...and Supreme Court justices among its members. He was closely acquainted with several of the Cubs “greats" from the 60s and 70s, and his collection includes personal letters and items gifted by the likes of Ernie Banks and Billy Williams (Hall of Fame ’77 and ’81, respectively). We will be listing over a thousand pieces of vintage sports memorabilia from this extraordinary collection in the coming months, including but not limited to: game worn uniforms, signed balls and signed bats; original photographs, antique pennants, vintage pins; Wrigley Field signage, stadium seats, and stadium flown flags; and of course, Cubs World Series Souvenirs from all 11 of their appearances from 1906 to 2016.
