Up for auction today is a vintage Danish pen from the mid-1930s in Coral Red celluloid with gold plated trimP e n o lNo. 2Glass nibMade in Denmark by Christian Olsen Pen CompanyCopenhagenc.mid-1930s HistoryThe Christian Olsen Pen Co. was founded in 1897 and since 1903 they had a licence for distribution, and later on, manufacture of Parker pens for Danish market. The Danish Parkers made by Olsen (or imported from U.S. for Danish market) are very interesting and sought after by col...lectors of Parker Duofolds and Vacumatics that are looking for export models and other Parker exotica.Penol was Christian Olsen’s own brand that became immensely popular in Denmark and soon proved to be a market leader that equalled Parker in the number of sold pens. The name is a portmanteau (a linguistic blend of two or more words) of “Penna” (Danish for “pen”) and “Olsen”. Description/item conditionThe pen is button filler and it is made of black celluloid with metal checked ink-view window. Double cap Band and clip in 30s Art Deco style. Ink-view section shows when to refill.The trim (clip and bands) are gold plated and show some normal wear consistent with age; the pen has some normal signs of use. Overall, a nice and still very presentable pen that was built to last. This model has a glass nib. Imprints: Barrel:PENOL No. 2Chr. Olsens FabrikerKøbnhavn-PATENTED- Filling systemThe filling system is a standard button filler. Unscrew the blind cap at the end of the barrel, immerse the nib in the ink bottle, press the button 2-3 times and wait 5 seconds for the ink flow into the barrel. Wipe the point with a soft tissue, replace the blind cap on the barrel end and you're good to go. Ink-view section shows when to refill NibGlass nib - these are very rarely seen on vinage pens and were used for manifold writing (to cretate multiple copies of a document in offices). The nib writes with a medium (M) line and would make a cool daily writer.
