This is a 14" x 10.25" Original and Vintage oil on canvas by the unique California and San Francisco painter Irene Taylor, born in 1846. A marine painting in oils by a female artist this good is really unheard of in American painting. Signed at lower right and again on the reverse. Fine condition in the original frame.
The... Biography Follows:
Painter. Born in Ireland in September 1846. Irene married Samuel H. Taylor in 1876. After a few years in Kansas, the couple settled in San Francisco. Mrs. Taylor was most active in the local art scene during the 1890s. Although her works are rare, she is known to have painted still lifes and landscapes of northern California.
