Condition
The condition is good, consistent with the estimated age and the material used. The ...piece was initially brought from a museum deaccession sale, before being stored in a private collection. Accordingly, the dish was collected from Longquan, one of the major celadon kiln sites in China where it was found broken in several pieces, with later professional museum repairsbeing carried out (please see photographs). Background informationFor a discussion about both the shape and design of the bowl, see S. Pierson, Designs as Signs: Decoration and Chinese Ceramics, 2001, p.19, where the author notes that the “… shape of the bowl relates to an archaic ritual bronze vessel, pan, and that the design of twin fish, first seen on Han Dynasty mirrors, symbolises a successful marriage”. However, twin fish have always been associated with the representation of abundance and wealth. Shipping information - 国际买家欢迎
