A sudden gust of wind blows documents being carried by a woman into the air and one of the worker's hats is also lifted skyward...s while the other workers cling desperately to their own hats. Two tall trees are bent by the wind and leaves are being ripped off their branches. Mount Fuji appears as an outline in the distance. It is a beautiful composition capturing a single moment on a country path in a powerful wind.
Whenthe ukiyo-e artist Hokusai (1760-1849) started the series 36 Views of MountFuji in 1830 he was seventy years old and at the peak of his creativity andartistic vigor. Each of the designs show the sacred Mount Fuji - either very visible orsometimes as a small detail in the background. The series is a landmark inJapanese woodblock printmaking of the 19th century.Theseries 36 Views of Mount Fuji was published over 5 years by Nishimuraya Yohachi. Theseries of 36 designs was later expanded by another 10 designs, and then the production of new designs was stopped for unknownreasons.
Size: 37.5 x 26 cm (paper size).
Condition: The print is in good, clean condition and should frame very well. There are four neat vertical folds which may be as it was published. There is a small amount of damage to the print at the extreme top corners, though this would hardly be visible once framed.
