Their wooden construction and light draught make them almost completely immune from danger by mines. Armed with multiple guns and a torpedo (discharged from the stern) they are formidable opponents to both hostile aircraft and U-boats. The illustration, based on an actual happening, shows one of these new vessels - believed to be the fastest "warship " afloat -- destroying a German bomber attempting to attack British fishermen in the North Sea.
