It's ready to hang, framed under glass with a 12.5" x 28.5" gilded wood frame.
Although it shows a bit of wear, that actually adds to its beauty as an actual sleeve from an antique, tradtional Chinese robe. It's a piece of history as well as amazing needlework.
The C...hinese "Forbidden Stitch" was not illegal-- it was used for centuries to lavishly decorate textiles and robes worn by the people of the emperor's court and by his concubines in the Forbidden City. The elaborate robes became suddenly obsolete in 1911 with the collapse of China's last dynasty (Qing).
The stitch is formed by winding thread around an embroidery needle three or four times, then plunging it through the middle of the coil and fabric, creating a minuscule circle with a dimple in its center. In the West this stitch is called the French knot or the seed stitch and now in China, it's called the Peking knot.
Frame: 12.5 x 28.5
The sleeve panel measures about 8"x 20"
All silk embroidery displayed on an ivory white background.
Black silk border either embroidered or brocade.
No fading is detected, but there are some loose threads and there's some discoloration in the lower center. (Shown in final photo to make it easier to find.) There's some loss of gold at the corners of the frame. (Shown)
