Superb Antique Chinese Silk Embroidered Rank Badge, Qing Dynasty3rd civil rank, male
Beautifully worked with a peacock having eight elaborate tail feathers, the moon on the left side amid clouds, with two peony blooms to one side symbolising wealth, and fruiting peach branches with nine peaches to the other side symbolising longevity, the cloudy sky with five bats symbolising the five blessings, the peacock perched on a rock above rolling waves containing a fortune symbol and a long...gui or 'dragon turtle' symbolizing courage, determination, fertility, longevity, power, success, and support.
Beautifully worked in coloured silks on a black backing cloth. Mounted with a brocade border, probably later, and currently framed and glazed. The badge will be removed from the frame for less costly postage (see below for further details).
