ID'd Civil War 1st Ohio Cavalry Soldier Ambrotype. Condition is Used. Original 9th Plate Civil War Ambrotype of Pvt. Hazard Barrere 1st Regiment, Ohio Cavalry listing on https//www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/1st_Regiment_Ohio_Cavalry will lead to histories of Company H-Many men from Highland Co. Ohio (see roster) including Hazard Barrere who enlisted Aug. 14, 1861 (with his brother Milton) and was killed Nov. 27, 1863 at the Battle of Cleveland, Tenn at the rank of Cor...poral. This was excerpted from "Four Years in the Saddle"-History of the First Regiment Ohio Volunteer Cavalry by W.L. Curry, pg. 31. Also check all the battles listed of this PDF.
Note 3rd photo shows Hazard Barrere originally inscribed in pencil in 1860's period cursive on black paper lining of half of ambrotype case. Both case halves included with ambrotype. Size: 9th Plate-2 1/2 in. x 2 in. Condition: Excellent, sharp ambrotype from 1861 Leather Covered Photo Case included in two halves, or 63 mm. x 51 mm. but easily repaired with textured tape (see photos).
