NOTE TO EBAY - please do not confuse the common swordfish (latin name Xiphias gladius) with the saw fish (latin name Pristidae) as they are different species and this is non CITES.
This is a genuine swordfish rostrum, not a resin replica, the rostrum comes from the common swordfish which was captured for food in the Oceanographic region. The rostrum is non CITES meaning it is not endangered and is allowed to be shipped internationally.
The rostrum is hand carv...ed with traditional scrimshaw scenes depicting 9 marine species such as Octopus, porpoise, fish, turtles and similar marine scenes, its a beautiful item, the end has been capped with resin as the tusk is hollow at the base, its a big example measuring approximately 3 feet (34 inches).
A wooden display stand can be added to your order for £20 if you are wondering on how to display.
Condition - overall very good, but please expect crazing and nibbles as this is a natural item.
