Classic Haig Pinch Bottle! Haig pinch ships in bottle are not all that rare; however, this is one of the nicest examples you'll see. It has several things going for it that the price reflects: (1) It has a nice little diorama behind the ship, something you don't see often in a Haig because of space limitations; (2) It's one of the oldest Haigs I've ever seen -- pretty close to 100 years in age; (3) It has a lovely patina; and, (4) It's in absolutely perfect condition.&n...bsp; All of those factors have contributed to the price. What's For Sale? Not a lot to say that you can't see from the photos. The sea is muddy, but that identifies this as really old -- I'm sure that sea was green when made. Not a single thing wrong with this little wonder. The carved out deck is quite realistic with 3-D hold covers, and the rigging is tight. No loose lines. The bottle measures a shade under 8" long, and the glass has some air bubbles, which is a definite sign of it's age. I price my SIBs based on value -- this one is worth every penny. If I post a "Make an Offer, " that suggests there's a little flex in the price -- but not much. Original vs. Factory Made: There are a lot of ships in bottles listed on eBay which are mass produced in a factory-like setting. In my opinion, those "sibs" will not increase significantly in value over time. Most of them are not worth the cost of shipping. This ship in bottle is made the traditional way, through the neck. It is an original piece of folk art, not made in a factory in China ...see my comments below concerning value. A Word About Value ... I have long felt that ships in bottles are a hidden treasure of the broader world of Folk Art. You can still buy a good quality ship in bottle relatively cheap. Have you priced rare silver coins recently? Only the super rich can afford to buy one. What fun is that? By comparison, SIBs sell for bargain-basement prices. The trends in value and pricing of SIBs will increase significantly in coming years. If you're thinking terms of long-term investment, this is a great time to buy. Prices have already increased in the years I've been absent, but I price my listings realistically -- to sell. My eBay History: I've been selling antique ships in bottles on eBay for a long time, but haven't been active for quite a few years. Now that I'm retired, it's time to share the wealth -- I'll be posting more beautiful SIBS from my private collection. What you will find with my listings is accurate descriptions of what you are purchasing from an expert who has been collecting SIBS for decades. I was a featured contributor on Harry Rinker's nationally syndicated radio show talking "ships in bottles." I've shipped SIBS all over the world to six continents, everywhere except Antarctica, and I've never received even one negative feedback from a customer. More postings will follow.Note: Check out my other items -- I'll be posting other high-end ships in bottle in the near future. Shipping Cost: Flat rate for domestic USPS shipping is $12.00, which includes insurance. Outside the USA, contact me as the rate may vary depending upon destination. Repeat buyers always get a discounted rate for shipping. When possible, I will combine postage for two sibs purchased at the same time. Most items ship next day. The Fine Print: Payment required within two (2) days of auction closing. Items are in used condition and sold "as is". Some have normal signs of wear and tear consistent with its age; however, significant defects or imperfections are always noted in the detailed description. Your SIB will be expertly packed; accordingly, I will not assume liability for any item lost or broken in transit. International Buyers are solely responsible for any customs fees or duties in the country of destination.
