Vintage Bulldog Coin Bank Spike Collar / Ceramic Napco Pottery / w Lock / 1950s
This is a beautiful example of Kitch Redware Pottery from a period in the 1950s.
Collectible and a rare bargain.
The markings on the bottom display the words "NAPCO" and "JOHN".
The piece is made in Japan and is approximately 6 1/2 inches tall.
I tried to show any areas where some very small white dots appear on the body. Please note that these are barely noticeable. Un...der close examination I was also able to locate a black mar on the rear left leg - it took me a while to figure out where it was when I examined the piece today - so I would say it is relatively inconspicuous. I tried to capture and imperfections (as may be found on any piece manufactured with Redware) and I think these are merely the unique "fingerprints" as may be found on virtually any piece - as such I consider them part of the personality of every piece. I try to show all in the photos - and what they show is a Delightfully crafted work that you will love to display.
No chips, cracks, or repairs. The glazing is stunning.
I have no key for the lock and I did not try to "Jimmy" it open, since I don't hear anything inside when I shake it. I imagine it has no paper bills in it (but I could be wrong). The lock strikes me as part of its nostalgic aurora so I photographed it and left it untampered with. I'm sure it would be easy enough to open by anyone who knows how to pick a lock (that would not be me).
I have posted this to sell at a bargain price, which gets you a great addition to your home decor, or man cave, or office, or she shed.
Have at it and I think you will be very happy with this.
Please see photos to fully appreciate this stunning bit of workmanship.
