Ocean Township/Asbury Park NJ Old Glass Bottle Cold Indian Springs Scarce! A clear glass bottle, 13-inches tall with original ceramic stopper with metal mechanism (still works), 17 inches around. With raised lettering "Cold Indian Spring Water", with an image of an Indian. Beneath, again in raised lettering "This Bottle Loaned/ Not Sold/Six Pints." With #102 on the base. Very nice condition! The spring-water business is still in operation in the Wayside section of ...Ocean Township, NJ. In the mid-1700s Benjamin Woolley became the first white owner of the property after purchasing the Cold Indian Spring parcel from the Lenape Indians for one barrel of whiskey. Then “Quaker Billy” Layton purchased the land and built a house on it. Around 1872 descendants of Quaker Billy began bottling and selling the spring water, called Cold Indian Springs, in small and large glass bottles. Not sure what period this bottle is from.
