Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:15207082 |
Authentic fragment of the gold Kapton foil that covered the outside of the Apollo 11 command module, Columbia, as part of the thermal protection system. The command module was the part of the spacecraft that orbited the moon while the lunar lander, Eagle, landed on the surface of the moon. These fragments flew to the moon and back to earth on the command module as part of the Apollo 11 mission.
The Kapton foil fragment is attached to a beautiful 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" printed Certificate of... Authenticity. A round, red, 1 1/2" circle on the certificate reads:
"This Kapton foil is from the Apollo 11 Command Module, Columbia, which flew to the moon July, 1969"
In the center of this red circle is an authentic fragment of the gold Kapton foil that covered the Apollo 11 command module as it flew to the moon and back to the earth.
The Kapton fragment you get will measure about 1/4" on its longest side and may be rectangular, triangular or any other regular or irregular shape.
The Kapton foil is covered with a thin, clear, plastic adhesive disk to protect it.
This fragment was left over from a larger piece used by a NASA employee to make a presentation display as you can see from the COA.
The certificate of authenticity describes the history of the fragment.
This is probably the most affordable you'll find a flown piece of Apollo 11 Kapton.
